Shivangi - The Artist

The Artist

Hi, I'm Shivangi — the hands and heart behind Basho.

My journey with clay began unexpectedly. After Spending years in the world of Dentistry, I found myself searching for something more meaningful — a craft that would connect me to the earth and allow me to create with intention. That's when I discovered pottery, and everything changed.
What started as a weekend hobby quickly became an all-consuming passion. I trained under master potters, studied Japanese ceramic traditions, and fell deeply in love with the philosophy of wabi-sabi — finding beauty in imperfection and embracing the natural, the authentic, and the handmade.

Our Philosophy

Wabi-Sabi & The Art of Imperfection

Named after Matsuo Bashō, the master of haiku, our studio embodies the principles of finding profound meaning in simple things. We believe that objects we use daily should carry a soul.

Every bowl, cup, and vase is hand-thrown or hand-built, embracing the natural texture of clay and the unpredictable magic of glazing. No two pieces are identical, just as no two moments in life are the same.

In a world of mass production, we choose to slow down. To feel the earth between our fingers. To create with intention.

The Journey of Artistry

Where Earth, Hand, and Fire Converse
Step 01

The Artistry of Awakening Clay

Raw stoneware begins its transformation through rhythmic wedging and kneading. This foundational act awakens the clay’s memory, expelling air and aligning its body for creation.

Step 02

The Artistry of Form in Motion

Centered on the spinning wheel, clay responds to the potter’s touch. Guided by intuition and steady rhythm, form rises as movement and stillness meet.

Step 03

The Artistry of Refined Restraint

At the leather-hard stage, excess is carefully pared away. This deliberate subtraction sharpens silhouettes and reveals the vessel’s intended elegance.

Step 04

The Artistry of First Fire

The initial firing tempers the piece at 900°C, shifting clay into bisqueware. Porous yet strong, it stands ready to receive color, depth, and surface expression.

Step 05

The Artistry of Surface Alchemy

Glaze is applied by hand, flowing and settling like liquid poetry. Minerals and pigments cloak the form, preparing it for its final metamorphosis.

Step 06

The Artistry of Completion Through Flame

A high firing at 1200°C seals the journey. Fire crystallizes color, strengthens form, and completes the vessel’s artistic destiny.
